Tuesday PM...Six‑Vehicle Crash Snarls Memorial Boulevard Traffic

MURFREESBORO, TN (WGNS) - What started as the usual heavy outward‑bound rush on Memorial Boulevard turned into a long, unexpected standstill in the 6:00 o'clock hour on Tuesday evening (8/5/2026). A six‑vehicle crash at the Wendelwood intersection brought outbound traffic to a crawl, with drivers suddenly finding themselves bumper‑to‑bumper and wondering what happened up ahead.

Crash investigators with Murfreesboro Police were working the scene, sorting through the tangle of vehicles to determine how the chain‑reaction collision began. At one point, officers had a male driver detained, handcuffed, and walking the straight‑line field sobriety test as they evaluated whether impairment may have contributed to the wreck.

Murfreesboro Fire Rescue and Rutherford County EMS were also on the call, weaving through the tight lanes to check on occupants and assist police. Despite the mess and the sheer volume of evening traffic, MPD managed to keep one outbound lane open, guiding drivers through the intersection and preventing a full shutdown of Memorial Boulevard.

Investigators are still piecing together the timeline and determining whether charges will follow. As Murfreesboro Police release more information, NewsRadio WGNS will keep you informed.
