ANTIOCH, Tenn. - A multi-vehicle crash on Interstate 24 East claimed the life of a 26-year-old man early Friday morning near the Rutherford-Davidson County line.

The crash was reported around 12:40 a.m. on I-24 East near the Old Hickory Boulevard exit. According to Nashville Metro Police, the collision involved a Toyota Camry and a tractor-trailer. The driver of the Camry was killed in the crash. The victim has been tentatively identified as a 26-year-old man, although the Medical Examiner’s Office is assisting with positive identification.

Metrol Police said in a media release that the traffic in the area was slowing because of lane closures associated with road construction. The tractor-trailer was preparing to change lanes when the Camry suddenly changed lanes and struck the rear of the trailer.

Investigators said the Camry was traveling at a high rate of speed, and the force of the collision caused part of the tractor-trailer to intrude into the passenger cabin of the car. The driver of the tractor-trailer was not injured.

There was no evidence of impairment at the scene, according to police. The preliminary investigation indicates that speed and failure to maintain a lane by the Camry driver appear to have been contributing factors in the fatal collision. The investigation remains ongoing.
