Riverdale Reclaims Top Spot in Class 6A Statewide Rankings

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (WGNS) - Rutherford County maintains its grip on statewide high school football bragging rights as Riverdale High School reclaims the top ranking in Class 6A entering Week 4 competition.

The Warriors started the season at number one before dropping below Oakland following a week one loss to Knox Catholic. Riverdale returned to the top of the Tennessee Sports Writers Association poll after earning a victory over Blackman, while previous top-ranked Oakland suffered a 22-21 loss to Smyrna. Riverdale secured 15 first-place votes.

Maryville moved up to second place in Class 6A with two first-place votes. Oakland slipped to third overall with a 2-1 record. Southwind climbed two spots to fourth place with a 3-0 record, while Oak Ridge advanced to fifth.

Blackman dropped two spots to sixth place following their loss to Riverdale. Antioch moved up to seventh, Whitehaven took eighth, and Brentwood is ninth. Ravenwood rounded out the Class 6A top ten with their 1-2 record. 

In Division II-A, Nashville Christian grabbed the top spot and a 2-1 record after Friendship Christians' loss. Jackson Christian took second, followed by University School of Jackson in third. Friendship Christian dropped to fourth, while Middle Tennessee Christian School held steady in fifth place.
