NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WGNS) - The Middle Tennessee Council of Scouting America has honored retired Army Lt. Gen. Keith Huber with its Outstanding Eagle Scout Award. Huber serves as the senior adviser for veterans and leadership initiatives at Middle Tennessee State University, bringing significant recognition to the Rutherford County campus community. The council presents the award to Eagle Scouts who demonstrate remarkable achievements in their careers and service at local, regional, or national levels.
Huber joined MTSU in January 2015 as a distinguished visiting professor and founded the university's Charlie and Hazel Daniels Veterans and Military Family Center. The facility stands as the largest and most comprehensive center of its kind at any public or private university in Tennessee. Huber earned his Eagle Scout rank in 1968 before his appointment to the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, where he graduated in 1975.
MTSU Trustee J.B. Baker, who serves as chairman of the council's Board of Endowment Trustees and is a fellow Outstanding Eagle Scout Award recipient, nominated Huber for the honor. Baker praised Huber as dynamic and multifaceted. Former council president John Bright Cage noted during the mid-September ceremony honoring Huber and three other recipients that the prestigious award is reserved for individuals whose efforts make a positive impact. Huber credits his early Scouting experience with teaching him the essential leadership skills and expectations that guided his 38-year military career.
