NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WGNS) - Rutherford County residents will soon see upgraded technology at local library branches following a $19,000 grant announcement. Secretary of State Tre Hargett and the Rutherford County Legislative Delegation secured the technology grant for the Rutherford County Library System to buy desktop computers, Chromeboxes, and monitors.
"Thank you to the Rutherford County legislative delegation for their ongoing commitment to supporting our local libraries," said Secretary Hargett. "Providing libraries with updated technology allows them to better serve the evolving needs of patrons in communities across Tennessee. I’m grateful for their continued partnership, dedication, and advocacy in strengthening our state’s libraries."
The Tennessee State Library & Archives, a division of the Secretary of State's Office, administers these technology grants. Funding comes through the Library Services and Technology Act (LSTA), made possible by the Institute of Museum and Library Services. Every grant distributed under the program is matched with local funds.
Across Tennessee, state officials awarded $508,522 in technology grants to 99 libraries this year. Public libraries use these funds to buy or replace desktop computers, software, networking equipment, and electronic hardware for library patrons and staff.
