MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (WGNS) - Siegel Middle School students and staff gathered Tuesday (September 29th) for a USA-themed pep rally to honor head football coach Martaveon Dockery ahead of his upcoming military deployment.
Dockery, who serves as a staff sergeant with the Tennessee Army National Guard, received orders to deploy later this fall. He also works as a physical education teacher and track coach at the school.
Principal Kim Stoecker said Dockery has served the school as a teacher or volunteer coach for nearly ten years, praising his strong leadership and principles on and off the field. School staff and student-athletes shared messages highlighting his impact on the team and how much the community will miss him during his deployment.
Support for the coach extends to the field for Tuesday (September 29th) evening's game against Rocky Fork Middle School. Players from both Siegel Middle and Rocky Fork Middle will wear American flag decals on the back of their helmets to mark his service. In addition, all Siegel Middle students and staff received special bracelets reading "Siegel loves Coach Doc," which Stoecker says they plan to wear until he returns home safely.
