SMYRNA, Tenn. (WGNS News) - Special Olympics Tennessee is looking for volunteers ready to become part of its “game day crew” when hundreds of athletes and Unified partners arrive in Rutherford County for the 2026 State Fall Games. The two-day event will take place Oct. 16-17 at venues in Smyrna and Murfreesboro.

The State Fall Games bring together Special Olympics Tennessee athletes and Unified partners from communities across the state for competition, celebration and friendship. Organizers say volunteers are an important part of the event, helping create a welcoming and memorable experience for athletes both on and off the field.

Volunteer opportunities are available at several locations and sporting events. Bowling will be held at the Smyrna Bowling Center, while flag football, fitness activities, cornhole and health screenings will take place at Richard Siegel Park in Murfreesboro. Volunteers can help with athlete support, event setup and breakdown, scorekeeping, competition support and other duties throughout the games.

No previous experience is required, and volunteer positions are open to individuals, families, community organizations, schools, businesses and corporate teams.

“Volunteers are an essential part of what makes Special Olympics Tennessee events so special,” said Adam Germek, President and CEO. “State Fall Games are an opportunity for people across our community to come together, support our athletes and experience the excitement of competition firsthand.”

Special Olympics Tennessee provides year-round sports training and competition, health opportunities and leadership experiences for more than 21,000 athletes statewide. Through sports and inclusive programming, the organization works to provide people with intellectual disabilities opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, build friendships and experience the support of their communities.
