The tax on fuel may increase in order to cover the cost of local roadways and highways. The reason for the possible increase is because of a decrease in fuel consumption as more fuel efficient vehicles hit the roads. Rutherford County Mayor Ernest Burges stated…

The tax on fuel in Rutherford County rings in at 49.55 cents per gallon (this includes the federal, state and local taxes on gas at the pump).
