The tax on fuel in Rutherford County rings in at 49.55 cents per gallon (this includes the federal, state and local taxes on gas at the pump).
According to the Tennessee Department of Transportation:
- 31.15 cents per gallon (20 cent gasoline tax + 1.4 cent special petroleum fee + 9.75% local tax)
- Yields $654.6 million per year
- Each penny is worth about $30.6 million per year
- The federal tax should also be added to the amount above = +18.4-cents per gallon
- THE TOTAL TAX ON GAS is 49.55 cents per gallon
