Murfreesboro Fire & Rescue Department's Fire Marshal's Division and Murfreesboro Police Department brought charges against two people late Thursday night after the initial investigation into a car fire.

John Gebo, 27, of 2025 S. Church St., and Crystal Schulz, 38, of 140 Drema Court, Murfreesboro were charged with criminal conspiracy, setting fire to personal property, and filing a false report. He is being held on $11,000 bond while she is being held on $8,500 bond at Rutherford County Adult Detention Center.

According to Police and Fire Dispatch, crews were dispatched around 10:45 pm to Steel Tech and Mi-tech Drive for a car fire. District 1 crews and Rescue 9 arrived in the area and discovered a car fully engulfed in flames in a vacant, overgrown field off Shelby Street behind the Regal Inn.

"Crews did a wonderful job locating the fire and extinguishing it quickly once on scene, but the car was almost completely burned out," said Shift Commander Daryl Alexander.

Assistant Fire Marshal Tracy Summar was called to the scene to investigate. With the help of Murfreesboro Police Department, Summar was able to collect several key details for this investigation. Those details will not be released at this time, as the investigation is ongoing.

During the course of the incident, Rescue 9 was replaced by Rescue 2 because they were called to respond with Ladder 9 to Thornton's on Old Fort Parkway for a gas spill. According to Alexander, the 20 gallon spill was quickly contained and a cleanup crew was called. "It was a very busy night for MFRD," he said.

A hearing for Gebo and Schulz is set for October 1 in General Sessions Court.
