Congressman Scott DesJarlais Stated:
Friday, the United States Senate passed a continuing resolution stripping the House provision defunding the
“Unfortunately the valiant effort by a select group of conservative senators was not enough to prevent the Senate from disregarding the will of the American people. Now the House must once again hold the line in preventing the implementation of ObamaCare. I remain committed in refusing to vote for any proposal that funds the president’s health care law and I call upon my colleagues to join me. A temporary government shutdown pales in comparison to the long-term negative consequences that ObamaCare will impose on our economy and our health care system.”
Senator Bob Corker Also Stated:
U.S. Senator Bob Corker, R-Tenn., today voted to move forward debate on the House-passed bill to fund
“I support the House-passed bill to fund the government without funding Obamacare, which is why I voted twice this week to move it forward. After the defunding portion of the bill was taken out, I voted against passage of the amended bill that funded Obamacare. Now, the House, where Republicans have the majority, can make good policy changes and send something back to the Senate that hopefully will pass both chambers,” said Corker.
State Rep. Joe Carr Stated:
Earlier this week, Rep. Joe Carr released a statement calling on Sen. Lamar Alexander to stand with Sen. Ted Cruz, Sen. Mike Lee, and the citizens of Tennessee and vote NO to cloture.
“While Tennesseans have overwhelmingly expressed to Sen. Alexander their support of Sen. Ted Cruz and Mike Lee’s efforts to vote NO to cloture and effectively stop Sen. Reid’s plan to strip defunding language for Obamacare, it has fallen on deaf ears. Sen. Alexander has voted with Sen. Reid and the Democrats yet again by voting YES to Cloture,” says Rep. Joe Carr.
“Sen. Alexander showed his continued lack of respect for Tennesseans today by voting with Sen. Reid and the Democrats. We will continue to be the voice of the people and hold Sen. Alexander’s feet to the fire on this issue and others,” says Rep. Carr.
Representative Joe Carr is an announced candidate running against Sen. Lamar Alexander in the 2014 Republican Primary. He is a principled conservative who believes that Washington needs to return to our founding core principles of personal responsibility, individual liberty, and free and fair markets.
