Gov. Haslam’s bill designed to combat the growing meth problem is advancing in the Tennessee House. The proposal would limit how much pseudoephedrine could be purchased per year and per month. The bill has been changed to let consumers buy two boxes of 24 tablets containing ephedrine or pseudoephedrine per month. The bill moved out of the House Criminal Justice subcommittee. If a family of four all takes the same type of allergy medication daily that contains pseudoephedrine, then that family won't have enough pills to make it through an entire month. In fact, they won't even have enough to make it through half a month.
Tennessee is currently number two in the country for meth lab seizures. In county by county rankings, Coffee County was ranked in the top 10 per meth labs seized last year.
