We have more news on police checkpoints in Rutherford County. Since bringing our listeners the story about the Highway Patrol drivers license checkpoint...
We have learned that the LaVergne Police Department is planning an upcoming sobriety checkpoint.
The La Vergne Police Department says they will be looking for drunk drivers in the city on Friday and Saturday, August 15-16 through alcohol saturation patrols, as well as conducting sobriety checkpoints.
Increased police patrols will be conducted from 6:00 p.m. - 2:00 a.m. both days. The La Vergne Police Department will monitor traffic for signs of impaired driving within city limits and along Interstate 24. These saturation points will also focus on speeding, safety belt, and other road violations.
Sobriety checkpoints are scheduled on Murfreesboro Road, Old Nashville Highway, Stones River Road and Waldron Road as follows:
- Friday, August 15 from 10:00 - 11:30 p.m. and 12:00 - 1:30 a.m.
- Saturday, August 16 from 9:30 - 11:30 p.m. and 11:30 p.m. - 1:00 a.m.
The cost of the saturation patrols is covered through a Governor's Highway Office Safety grant. The grant funding pays for overtime of law enforcement officers to patrol the streets looking for drunk or impaired drivers.
