An argument led to a stabbing that left one man seriously injured at a South Cannon Boulevard residence late Sunday night, police said.
Mike Harper was airlifted to Vanderbilt Medical Center for neck and stomach wounds and was in stable condition after an operation Monday morning, Det. Sam Jacobs said.
Jose Luis Lopez, 25, of Burt Street, was initially charged with criminal impersonation and public intoxication, with charges of aggravated assault pending following interviews with the victim and suspect, Jacobs said. Lopez was stabbed in the back of a leg. He was treated and released at Heritage Medical Center and taken to Bedford County Jail.
An argument is believed to have sparked the attack, according to Jacobs. Lopez wielded a "small black handle knife with a silver blade" when stabbing Harper in the right side of the neck and stomach, officer Chris Vest's report said.
Lopez falsely identified himself as "Jose Ramirez" to officers at the scene and staff at Heritage Medical Center, Jacobs said. He was being held without bond Monday.
