Around 10:30 Saturday (11/1/2014) morning in neighboring Shelbyville, it's believed that a gust of wind caused the collapse at the site of a new field house beside the Central High School football stadium. Three workers were injured, with one being airlifted to the Vanderbilt Trauma Center.

A wall at the construction site fell on Efran Hernandez. He was flown to Vanderbilt--checked out and amazingly released. Kenny Murphy suffered three broken ribs, a broken back and pelvis. Larry Murphy had a broken leg and ankle. Both were taken by ambulance to Heritage Medical Center in Shelbyville, and then transported to Vanderbilt in Nashville.

Reports indicate that a crane was lowering pre-assembled wooden roof trusses onto the concrete block structure when witnesses said a gust of wind toppled the wall.

Mike Sakkinen of Taylor's Construction told police that the wall was not assembled according to plans, and there was no re-bar. He indicated that the trusses should not have been placed on the structure.

It has not been determined whether or not Shelbyville City Codes inspected the structure.

Shelbyville Central High's Booster Club reportedly has secured another construction company to complete the project.
