Murfreesboro Schools are going green thanks to a program operated by the state of Tennessee. New energy efficient light fixtures are being installed at seven city schools. Schools are changing the old four light ballast’s for two light electronic ballast. The anticipated savings is about $80-thousand dollars annually.

Each room in the seven schools will also be equipped with a new energy saving light switch that automatically turn the lights on when the rooms are occupied and off when they are not. The changes are being funded by a one time million dollar loan that is interest free. The loan is funneled to the school by the state of Tennessee from the Tennessee Energy Efficient Schools Initiative.
