The Smyrna Police Department is proud to join the efforts of other law enforcement agencies, Department of Children's Services, Child Advocacy Center of Rutherford County, and other social agencies in the 19 Days of Activism for the Prevention of Violence and Abuse Toward Children and Youth.

Since January 1, 2015 the Smyrna Police Department has been dispatched to 178 calls where there was an allegation of child abuse. Of those 178 dispatched calls, 32 were confirmed cases of child abuse within the confines of the Town of Smyrna. One child abuse is too many and the Smyrna Police Department has detectives strongly trained in helping and assisting victims of child abuse. They work closely with the Department of Children's Services, the District Attorney's Office for the 16th Judicial District, and the Child Advocacy Center of Rutherford County to provide a comforting safe environment for these children and we are all devoted to making sure our children's safety is priority number one.

Smyrna Police Chief Kevin Arnold said in a press release:

The Smyrna Police Department is proud to have Community Services Coordinator Shirley Key on our staff. Mrs. Key is available for training to your organization or church on child abuse or recognizing child neglect or abuse. This is through the Darkness to Light training. This program raises awareness of the prevalence and consequences of child sexual abuse by educating adults about the steps they can take to prevent, recognize, and react responsibly to the reality of child sexual abuse. If you or your organization is interested in this valuable training please call 615-459-6644 extension 2318 and speak to Mrs. Key and schedule your training.

The Smyrna Police Department investigates any and all allegations of any impropriety against any of our kids and we remain focused on our mission statement, "To maintain a partnership with the community that will provide a safe and secure environment in which we all can live and our children can flourish."
