The Murfreesboro City Council and the Power Board will conduct a Special Joint Public Meeting at 5:00 o'clock this coming Thursday afternoon May 12th in the Council Chambers of the Murfreesboro City Hall.

Almost a year ago, on May 29, 2015, Middle Tennessee Electric Membership Corporation made a request to city officials that they enter discussion on the potential of purchasing Murfreesboro Electric. The offer came in the form of a non-binding memorandum of understanding.

At next Thursday afternoon's meeting, the Murfreesboro City Council and the Murfreesboro Power Board will learn more about the in-depth study.

In considering whether to enter into negotiations with MTEMC, City administrators and elected and appointed officers are analyzing a number of financial and operational issues.

Middle Tennessee Electric serves 205,000 residential and business accounts in a service territory that includes Williamson, Wilson, Rutherford, and Cannon counties. Murfreesboro Electric Department serves approximately 55,000 homes and businesses within the city limits.
