Jail in Rutherford County has Over 700 Inmates - Most Awaiting Court Dates

As of Wednesday (6/15/16), 764 inmates were in the Rutherford County Adult Detention Center. Captain Chris Deal with the Sheriff's Office told WGNS that most of those inmates are awaiting trial or a court date and have not yet been found guilty or not guilty.

Residents will be able to vote on a newly approved judge position August 4, 2016 in Rutherford County. Once elected, the new judge will hold court in the local jail at 940 New Salem Highway in Murfreesboro.

By Tennessee constitution, the General Sessions Judges are elected by county-wide vote to eight (8) year terms.
