Murfreesboro Mayor Shane McFarland leads by example. He is a strong advocate for healthy living, and encourages events and activities here that promote fitness. This past weekend the mayor was a runner in the New York Marathon.

The New York Marathon is the largest in the world, so it's not for those who like to avoid crowds.

Over 50,000 runners take a relatively flat course through the Big Apple's five boroughs. It's described as a 26.2-mile block party.

Locally, the BETTER 'BORO program promotes healthy eating, recreation, and provides unique and accessible wellness opportunities. CLICK HERE

NOTE: Mayor McFarland will be on the WGNS Action Line Wednesday morning (8:10-9:00AM), and among other things--he will talk about fitness and his running in New York.
