POSTPONED: A Meeting scheduled for Sunday to discuss historic statues postponed

Aug 23, 2017 at 08:38 pm by Bryan Barrett

A meeting involving a number of local residents that was scheduled for Sunday (8/27/17) to discuss the current statues on the local square has been postponed. The meeting was going to be at The Experience Church.

Community Organizer Jason Bennett previously stated...

Some have suggested in recent years the need to remove statues of historic significance, others are in favor of keeping the statues in place as they are indeed historic.

One statue that has been discussed was recently covered with a sheet in front of the Rutherford County Courthouse. The statue in question honors Rutherford County Confederate Soldiers. The monument for those who died was erected in 1901. The historic piece was paid for and erected by the Sons of Confederate Veterans along with the Ladies Memorial Association over 100 years ago.

Again, the meeting to discuss the current statues on the local square has been postponed. A new date has not been set.
