Recycle Rutherford Meeting 7PM This Monday

Oct 18, 2017 at 07:51 am by Bryan Barrett

How much time do we have before the Middle Point Landfill is full? This vital information will be covered at the fall gathering of Recycle Rutherford at 7:00 o'clock Monday (10/30/2017) evening. The public is encouraged to be at the Heritage Center, 225 West College Street.

Rutherford County Solid Waste and Landfill Director Mac Nolen is the guest speaker.

He said, "Rapid growth over the last decade has increased recycling and trash disposal needs."

Nolen will discuss four options that he feels should be studied as possible solutions to this major dilemma.

Since taking over this county position nine years ago, Nolen has pushed to increase recycling as well as implementing more recycling containers at convenience centers, along with starting a single-stream recycling program in city and county schools.

In addition, he will recognize students who submitted winning entries in Recycle Rutherford's third annual postcard competition. That competition also provided teachers an opportunity to incorporate recycling into the classes.
