Rutherford County Emergency Medical Service's SORT (Special Operations Response Team) team, which trains for high water rescues, has been busy responding to overnight flooding. Adam Rose with RCEMS SORT lists some of their overnight work, through 11:30am Tuesday.
- SORT was requested to assist LaVergne FD with well fair checks of homes surrounded by water due to the large amount of rain in a short period of time. The request came in around 1230 Tuesday Morning. Several homes were checked, most elected to shelter in place and one family was assisted from their residence to higher ground. Contact C.Clark with LFD for exact numbers or further details of the homes affected.
- SORT and Rutherford County FD was dispatched to Cainsville Pk. in Lascassas for a report of a car in the water aprox 0330. On arrival of the scene one car was located off the flooded roadway with one person inside. Personnel from SORT and RCFD took a raft and removed the patient from the flood waters. Murfreesboro Fire and Rescue was also requested to the scene due to the wide area of flooding. Patient was treated by RCEMS.
- SORT and RCFD were dispatched to Sulpher Springs Rd. near W.Buckeye Bottom Rd. for a vehicle in the water around 0530. Due to several flooded spots in the area the patient had to be accessed from the "Florence Rd" side. SORT crew assisted one person from his flooded vehicle into a raft and then taken to higher ground.
- SORT and RCFD was dispatched to Sulpher Springs in the Buckeye Bottom Rd area around 0800 for a report of a vehicle in the water. Once located RCFD crews removed the patient from the vehicle to higher ground.
- SORT met with RCSO and planned for accessibility to a neighbo hood located in the area of JD Todd Rd. The neighborhood only has one entrance. The entrance was blocked due to flood waters. A plan was discussed in the event of an emergency during flood waters in that neighborhood.
- SORT called in additional personnel to assist with calls related to flooding.
