According to Airport Manager, Chad L. Gehrke back in 1947 the growing city of Murfreesboro purchased a 75-acre plot of land as part of their plans to move the airport from Middle Tennessee College out to Old Lebanon Highway. The purchased land included a small slender piece of land that connected the airport to Memorial Boulevard. Since its purchase, that land has sat with only minor improvements to drainage and utilities but it has never been able to be utilized by the airport.
With the rapid growth of Murfreesboro continuing along Memorial Boulevard, the airport is in a position to sell this piece of property and will take those resources to pay for improvements at the airport.
The City Council approved the resolution that states the property will be sold and that the money will go towards improving the airport.
