Protestors at Sunday Vigil on Murfreesboro Square to Honor George Floyd (PHOTOS, VIDEOS and AUDIO)

A large crowd gathered on the Murfreesboro square Sunday afternoon...



Those in attendance say they were there to have their voices heard...



The 3pm vigil was put together by Rutherford County resident Mike McDougal to pay respect and remember George Floyd, the man who died during a traffic stop by Minneapolis Police this past week.



Some on Sunday were there to release feelings of anger or fear...



Others just wanted to voice their opinion...

Teenagers at the vigil said...



A crowd formed around one man who had been in the news before...



He told WGNS that he was not there to cause problems.

As the event continued, tempers seemed to flare...



Eventually, the crowd died out to the tune of one woman who was not only poetic, but passionate about what was happening...



Shortly after she gathered the attention of spectators and protestors alike, police made the announcement of a curfew and the crowd quickly dispersed.

Evidently, a large number of people marched to the MTSU campus where they formed a line at the intersection of Middle Tennessee Boulevard and East Main Street...



Royce Massengil organized a rally involving college age students. Massengail stated...



State Troopers quickly convened on the MTSU campus and stood by while MTSU Police calmed the crowd that blocked the roadway...



It took authorities a few minutes to assess the chaos and talk to marchers about blocking the roadway. The campus officers then told the crowd that they were not in trouble and will not be arrested, assuming they remain peaceful when voicing their thoughts.

Later in the evening around 8PM, a crowd reconvened on the square chanting and yelling. Police worked to remove the crowd about 30 to 45 minutes later.

Murfreesboro Police Reported:

- Two people arrested for violating the Governor's Emergency Curfew Order.
- One person overcome by tear gas, treated on scene, refused transport.
- One person received medical treatment after a fainting episode on Square.
- No injuries to police.

DAMAGE:

- Vandalism to an Armored police vehicle (broken window)
- Broken side window at Whisky Dix downtown.
