Cracking down on NOISE pollution...
The Murfreesboro Police Department will be increasing noise enforcement efforts over the next several weeks. This effort is designed to increase safety on Murfreesboro streets and contribute to improving the overall quality of life for our citizens and visitors.
Noise violations are dangerous for motorists and people in the vicinity of the noise because it takes away the ability to hear approaching emergency vehicles and observe other situations. Drivers should be able to focus on driving and not be distracted by their own, or another vehicle’s loud noise.
Officers in both marked and unmarked patrol vehicles, as well as motorcycle officers, will be watching for vehicles creating noise that violates the City Noise Ordinance [Section 21-103 (18)].
The ordinance states that a violation occurs when: “Playing a radio, CD player, or tape cassette player in a motor vehicle on a public street that can be heard in another vehicle with the windows rolled up, or heard on private property; or playing a radio, CD player, or tape cassette player on private or public property where the sound can be heard beyond the property line.”
City Cable TV3 will be airing Public Safety Announcements throughout the next few weeks reminding people of the ordinance.
The cash appearance bond for violating this ordinance is $130.00.
Officers will also be watching for speeding and seatbelt use.
