Rutherford County Commission, 5-17-12

The need for a designated county legal department was voted on at the May 17th meeting of the Rutherford County Commission.  Currently those duties are outsourced to a local law firm, but the idea to have a self-contained department seemed, for now, problematic.  The measure was sent back to the Steering Committee who will evaluate it ahead of the next scheduled commission meeting.  As Murfreesboro city officials had earlier in the day, the commission also recognized National Police Week and honored fallen peace officers.  The Budget, Finance, and Investment Committee authorized energy efficient water upgrades to be made in Rutherford County schools, Public Works and Planning approved a contract with the state for litter removal on state highways and applied for grants for litter removal on county roads, and Steering, Legislative, and Governmental passed through the Election Commission’s suggestion to change commission districts to conform to the same lines as State Senate. The Cripple Creek Cloggers were recognized for their 45th Anniversary, and the International Folkfest for its 30th this year, and finally, the 2011-2012 Riverdale Lady Warriors Basketball team was applauded for their championship performance.
