Senators White and Reeves announce $532,928 in Highway Safety Grants for Rutherford County

Rutherford County State Senators Dawn White and Shane Reeves said today that nine Hi­­­ghway Safety Grants have been awarded to promote public safety on Rutherford County roads and to curb drunk driving.  The combined grants total $532,928.

"These grants are important to the safety of our community, funding a number of necessary positions and programs that keep our roadways safe," said Sen. White. "We are grateful that the Highway Safety Office has recognized a need for these programs in our community and is assisting us in ensuring our citizens are better protected on our roads."

Sen. Reeves added, "Road safety is an area of great concern for those we represent.  These funds will go a long way toward helping our local law enforcement reduce injuries and fatalities."

The grants include:

  *  Eagleville Police Department High Visibility Enforcement $5,000.00
  *  LaVergne Police Department Police Traffic Services (Multiple Violations) $49,998.00;
  *  Murfreesboro Police Department Police Traffic Services (Multiple Violations) $119,905.00;
  *  Prevention Coalition for Success, Inc. Alcohol and Impaired Driving Educati on $57,000.00;
  *  Rutherford County Sheriff's Office Police Traffic Services (Multiple Violations) $50,000.00;
  *  Rutherford County Sheriff's Office Police Traffic Services (Multiple Violations) $20,000.00;
  *  Rutherford County Sheriff's Office Teen Driver Safety $18,000.00;
  *  Smyrna Police Department Police Traffic Services (Multiple Violations) $50,025.00; and
  *  Tennessee District Attorney General, 16th Judicial District DUI Prosecution $163,000.00

The grant awards will be disbursed by the Tennessee Highway Safety Office (THSO).  The grants are provided to agencies that successfully applied for funding who meet the required data-driven criteria and highway safety standard.  Grant applications must be in line with THSO's mission to reduce traffic crashes, injuries and fatalities.
