(NASHVILLE) 2021 brings a fresh beginning to Tennessee. January 1, 2021 put into effect new laws. Plus, the 112th Tennessee General Assembly begins its 90-day, two-year run convening at noon on January 12, 2021.
New Laws With The New Year
- The age of those who purchase smoking products (cigarettes, any tobacco or vape products) has been increased to 21. Prior to the first day of 2021, the age was 18.
- Regulations dealing with AMBER ALERTS have changed. Now the age covered is 21 and younger. Prior to 2021 it was 18 and younger, so more young persons are eligible.
- Working women who are pregnant now have more rights in the workplace with the Pregnant Workers Fairness Act. Among other things, the bill includes having a place to sit and extra bathroom breaks. CLICK HERE for more information.
- All 911 operators in Tennessee are now allowed to give over-the-phone CPR instructions.
Elected Officials On WGNS
As in previous years, Rutherford County’s state senators and state representatives will be on WGNS “live” on the last Friday morning (8:10-9:00AM) of each month while the General Assembly is in progress. Not only will they update the community on pending legislation, but they will also take over-the-radio phone calls from constituents.
