Long Lines Election Day; Big Voter Turnout Delay Results Release

Nov 09, 2022 at 02:09 pm by WGNS

Rutherford Countians who decided to vote on election day found long lines at many of the polling centers. Several of the poll workers WGNS spoke with said lines were long and it was a steady stream all day Tuesday.

Rutherford County Election Administrator Alan Farley reports the unofficial number of voters was 75,552. That is 36.68% of the registered 205,992 voters:

It was around 9:45pm before the first numbers were released as there were still people in line at five vote centers at 9pm. If you're in line by the time the polls close at 7pm, you are allowed to vote. Farley says state statues keeps them from releasing any results until after the last person votes. That was the reason for the delay. The final results came in pretty quickly after the last vote was cast.
