Two Fatalities Thursday Night On Highway 41

(RUTHERFORD COUNTY - COFFEE COUNTY) The Tennessee Highway Patrol is working two separate fatal accidents those both occurred Thursday night on highway 41 (Manchester Pike), one was in Rutherford County and the other in neighboring Coffee County. 

The first was in Rutherford County on the Manchester Pike (hwy 41) at Gum Road in the Buchanan Community. A car attempted to pass a vehicle and was using a passing zone along the two-lane state highway. 23-year old Carlos Hernandez was killed when he slammed head-on into an oncoming 18-wheeler big rig.

On the same highway, but almost 28-miles into Coffee County at Manchester's Volunteer Parkway, a pedstrian was struck and killed. The THP report shows a 17-year old driver was traveling on highway 41 when he suddenly saw a pedestrian in the roadway. He swerved the Chevy Silvarado pickup in an attempt to avoid hitting him, but 24-year old Stephen Holland died of those injuries. No charges were filed against the juvenile driver.
