UPDATED: WGNS has a brief update on the suspect who reportedly crashed into a Smyrna High School senior this past February when she was visiting St. Louis, Missouri with her family for a volleyball tournament.

Janae Edmondson and her parents were walking back to their hotel when an SUV wrecked, causing the teen to be pinned between two vehicles. Prior to emergency workers arriving at the scene of the collision, Edmondson's father worked feverishly to save his daughter's life. After she was struck and pinned by a vehicle, her dad used belts to stop the loss of blood from injuries to her legs. As a result of the crash, doctors had to amputate both of Edmondson's legs.

Suspect Daniel Riley was on bond when the crash occurred. At the time, the 21-year-old was under GPS monitoring for a 2020 robbery case. Apparently, he had more than 10-previous GPS monitoring violations when he was taken into custody for critically injuring Edmondson and endangering others.

Status Hearing on Monday - A status hearing for the case is nearing and counsel is scheduled to appear in court this coming Monday, June 12, 2023. During status hearings, prosecutors and defense attorneys often discuss evidence that may be introduced at trial. In this case, the suspect is facing charges of 2nd Degree Assault, Armed Criminal Action, two counts of 4th Degree Assault, and operating a vehicle without a valid license.

In April, Riley waived his right to appear in court for a formal reading of his indictment. His Counsel affirmed with the courts that Riley is fully aware of the substance of the charges against him. Through his attorney, the suspect entered a plea of Not Guilty to the charges.

Fundraiser for Edmondson - The Mid TN Volleyball Club set-up a GoFundMe page for the recent Smyrna High School graduate after she was struck by a vehicle in St. Louis. Today, just over $800-thousand has been raised.

DISCLAIMER: All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. The arrest records or information about an arrest that are published or reported on NewsRadio WGNS and www.WGNSradio.com are not an indication of guilt or evidence that an actual crime has been committed.
