(MURFREESBORO)  Middle Tennessee Electric (MTE) continues the long hours of restoring power to thousands of customers hit by storms in the mid-state.

Amy Byers told NewsRadio WGNS that just before the minutes ticked into July, there were around 1,600 without electricity in Rutherford County. The majority of those were in Smyrna, but there were several outages scattered in Murfreesboro.

Byers noted, “We had approximately 20,000 members without power. Williamson and Wilson counties were the hardest hit.”

MTE President and CEO Chris Jones said, “Damage assessment has been hampered by continuing storms and road conditions in some areas, but initial work has led to about 7,000 restorations. Our linemen will be on the job all night, and for several of our members, power restoration will take a few hours due to safety concerns for our crews and members in the face of the extensive damage.”
