Stewarts Creek Hires New Girls Basketball Coach

A two time Texas high school state champion coach is taking over the reins of the Stewarts Creek girls basketball program. Redhawks Athletics Director Todd Harris announced Thursday (7-6-23) the hiring of Slone Starkey as the program's next head coach. He will take over for Bianca Hensley, who resigned after four-years to become the girls head coach at Cleveland High School.

Starkey spent some time in Middle Tennessee as a student athelte at John Overton High in Nashville. His family moved to Texas to finish out his high school career. He then went on to be a three-year point guard for Texas Wesleyan University, winning back-to-back conference championships in 2006 and 2007. The team also made NAIA Sweet 16 appearances those years.

Starkey comes from Newman International Academy, a school in the Dallas metroplex. He guided the boys teams there to two state championships in 2018 and 2021 and was named TCAF Coach of the Year those same years. As the head coach, his teams made six playoff appearances between 2018-2023 along with four state tournament appearances. He was also an assistant coach for the girls team there.
