RUTHERFORD COUNTY, TN – Rutherford County Sheriff’s Deputy Matt Kunce brought a Chicago mother and her children to a Murfreesboro hotel after a semi-truck rear-ended their vehicle in June on Interstate 24. Days Inn Clerk Marquisha Frazier experienced the same fear shown by the mother and her children so she immediately secured an empty room for the family.

The mother told Frazier she prayed for help and was grateful to her and Kunce. “An angel came,” the mother told Frazier, referring to Kunce.“I knew exactly how she felt,” Frazier said. Frazier, who is disabled, remembered driving in April on New Nashville Highway between Murfreesboro and Smyrna when her car overheated late at night. She was scared because of her reduced disability.

As Frazier sat in her car, Sheriff’s Deputy Markis Woods arrived to check on her. “He saw me shaking,” Frazier remembered. “He said, ‘ma’am, it’s going to be Ok.” Woods and Deputy Corey Frazier pushed her car to a convenience store and took her home and calmed her nerves.

Frazier, who is a caterer and delivers food, brought sliders, fries and dessert to Woods and Taylor along with the midnight shift deputies. She and Kunce recognized each other as soon as Kunce brought the family to the hotel where she works.

Kunce was relieved Frazier found a room for the family since the crash occurred during the weekend of sporting events when many Murfreesboro hotels were full. “We went to six different hotels looking for a room,” Kunce said. “I’m just glad we found them a room and they were not injured in the crash. They were very lucky.”

Before Kunce left, Frazier asked him what kind of food he liked. He mentioned he liked Mexican food. She promised him homemade tamales. She delivered the tamales to the midnight shift Tuesday night during their roll call meeting. Frazier told the deputies she was a single mother of two now grown adult children. She is grateful she lives in a county where deputies go beyond their duties to help stranded motorists and people in need.
