TBI Director David Rausch was part of the groundbreaking this week for the MALETA (Multi-Agency Law Enforcement Training Academy) campus, the new state-of-the-art training facility being built in the Cockrill Bend area of Nashville.

The ceremony included Gov. Bill Lee, Speaker Cameron Sexton, Lt. Governor Randy McNally and Tennessee Department of General Services, who spoke about how the shared facilities will significantly enhance the training of law enforcement staff in the state, and increase information sharing and interagency cooperation.

The TBI Training Division has been working closely with planners in discussing the multiple classrooms, simulation facilities, outdoor ranges, housing for trainees and in-service staff, which are among the uses for the facility. The new campus will also include administrative headquarters building for Tennessee Department of Safety and Tennessee Department of Correction. TBI, TN Law Enforcement Training Academy (TLETA), and Peace Officer Standards Training Commission (POST) will will also train and use the new facility.

During the groundbreaking ceremony, TBI Special Agents, Forensic Scientists, and Intelligence Analysts demonstrated features of the mobile command center, the crime response team truck used at crime scenes, and how arson K9s are utilized in investigating fires.
