(MURFREESBORO) A suspect who allegedly eluded prosecution on a first-degree murder charge was arrested Wednesday by the U.S. Marshals Joint Fugitive Task Force with Rutherford County Sheriff’s deputies.

37-Year-old Nathaniel Lamont Buchanan of Wenlon Drive in Murfreesboro was charged with fatally shooting Medrick Lamont Elliott in May of 2018. He was also charged with possession of a weapon by a convicted felon. After his arrest and initial booking at the local jail, Buchanan was released after posting a $100,000 bond.

Circuit Court records showed several pretrial motions being filed up until January 14, 2022 when all of a sudden, Buchanan failed to show for a hearing. A warrant was then issued for his arrest.

While out on bond for the murder charge, Buchanan was re-arrested for possession of cocaine for resale, possession of a firearm during the commission of a dangerous felony and being a felon in possession of a firearm in October of 2021 by the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation’s Drug Investigation Division and Rutherford County Sheriff’s narcotics detectives. After his secondary arrest, he was jailed and later released on a $112,000 bond, which was for the drug and weapons charges.

With law enforcement able to track down the fugitive, sheriff’s deputies, detectives, a K9 Unit and the U.S. Marshals task force headed to a Megis Drive address to once again apprehend the murder suspect. This past Wednesday (10/18/2023), officers took Buchanan into custody.

Buchanan is being held on $225,000 bond at Rutherford County Adult Detention Center. He is scheduled to be in Circuit Court on November 20, 2023.
