We have an update on a story that first broke on Tuesday in nearby Cannon County that involved Rutherford County Sheriff Deputies… A 911 Hang up call turned into shots fired on two Cannon County Deputies Tuesday.  According to Sheriff's Department reports Sheriff's Deputies Mike "Doc" Smith and Melanie McCormick were dispatched to a McBride Lane residence.  When they got there, they were met by a woman who stated that before she called 911 her boyfriend, Mr. Arron Eads grabbed her by the throat and slammed her into a wall.  The victim also stated that Mr. Eads had been drinking and had several guns in his house.

As Deputies arrived Eads bolted out the back door.  A little while later while assisting the victim in waiting for a ride, Eads approached the house.  As Deputy Smith was attempting to arrest Eads, he fought back. Even with the assistance of Deputy McCormick they were still unable to bring Eads under control. Eads allegedly made a run for it and found a gun which he reportedly used to fire upon the officers as he got away.

Officers radioed for backup and made a trip to Eads parents’ home to see if he had escaped to that location.  After determining he was still in the area, the Rutherford County SWAT team was contacted and helped by using a tracking dog.  The dog tracked down Eads who was hiding in a field between his parents’ residence and his residence.  Mr. Eads was then arrested and charged with 2 counts of attempted second degree murder, aggravated assault on a police officer (2 counts), 2 counts of reckless endangerment with a weapon and aggravated domestic assault.
