La Vergne, TN – Tragedy occurred while motorists were heading to work Tuesday morning. A multi-vehicle crash occurred around 7:30AM on I-24 near the Rutherford-Davidson County line. 39-year old Daniel Roberts of Murfreesboro was killed in that crash.
Preliminary police reports indicate that a Dodge Ram pickup truck slammed into three other vehicles that were stuck in traffic and not moving. The first one hit was a small Toyota Solara in which Mr. Roberts was driving. Also in the crash were a Kia Sorento and Honda Insight. Drivers of the other vehicles were taken to area hospitals with non-life threatening injuries. The 27-year old driver of the Ram pickup refused medical attention.
Charges are pending, awaiting the reults of the investigation.
Westbound lanes (toward Nashville) were totally closed and traffic was diverted onto Waldron Road (exit 64).
Preliminary reports indicate that a car and a pickup crashed and the truck rolled and slid on its side—crashing into the interstate median wall.
I-24 was reopened to traffic almost 3-hours later.
