Support Special Olympians by dining on wings and rings from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, May 7 at Toot’s restaurant on Northwest Broad Street.

Twenty-nine intellectually disabled students from Rutherford County will participate in the state Special Olympics competition May 17-18 at Lipscomb University in Nashville, said Co-coordinator Lou Paschall of Rutherford County’s Special Olympics. Toot’s customers who donate during the “Wings and Rings” event Tuesday will help pay for the expenses for the state games.

During the fundraiser, Toot’s will offer a “Wings and Rings” special of chicken fingers or 10 chicken wings and a half-order of onion rings for $4.99.

Because Toot’s is the place for “good food and fun,” Sheriff’s School Resource Officer Dick Peach will sing Elvis songs on request and he and other SROs will sing “Happy Birthday” to customers celebrating birthdays. SROs will help the Toot’s staff wait tables.

Envelopes will be placed on each table for donations. T-shirts will be on sale with all proceeds donated to Area 16 Special Olympics in Rutherford County.

Attending ‘Wings and Rings’ is a great excuse for an after hours office get-together, a school gathering of teachers and families, a church social and a guys and girls night out, the co-coordinator said.

“This community has been so supportive of these individuals and it’s one of the reasons it’s great to live in Rutherford County,” Paschall said. “We are honored to have the support of the School Resource Officer Division of the Rutherford County Sheriff's Office. Toot's is our hometown restaurant and we are so pleased with our continued partnership with them.”
