UPDATE: Al-Jazeera to Open News Studio in Middle Tennessee

WGNS is following up on a story first heard on the Tennessee Radio Network on WGNS Monday morning… That story, one that most would not expect in Middle Tennessee, the Al-Jazeera news network opening a studio in Nashville, Tennessee. In January of this year, Al Jazeera Media Network announced that it purchased Current TV in the United States from former U-S Vice President Al Gore. The company said they would be launching an American news channel. Now, the company says middle Tennessee is one of several locations they will call home.

So, what is the Al-Jazeera television network? According to a recent article on the website “About.com,” Matthew Baum, a professor of Global Communications and Public Policy at Harvard University's John F. Kennedy School of Government, he says "there's no question the mix of editorial views on it are more critical of U.S. policy and Israel, and more sympathetic to Arab perspectives than what you'd see on an American network." While that may not satisfy your curiosity, Al-Jazeera published on their Google app, “Al Jazeera's global footprint continues to grow and now broadcasts to more than 220 million households on six continents in more than 100 countries.”

I guess it all boils down to the fact that we will have to wait and see what the company plans to broadcast from Nashville and how they go about reporting whatever news they may wish to cover. The old saying, "only time will tell," is accurate in this situation.
