LA VERGNE, Tenn. (WGNS) — A dramatic multi-county search has come to an end in La Vergne, where 58-year old Carlos McCoy was taken into custody Saturday morning after fleeing from authorities and allegedly stealing a vehicle during his escape.

According to news partner WOPC Radio in Linden, the incident began in Perry County, where McCoy reportedly led deputies on a high-speed chase that reached nearly 100 mph on Highway 13 near Lobelville. The pursuit came to a halt when McCoy crashed his own vehicle and fled on foot into a wooded area near Skaggs Bluff.

Authorities launched an overnight manhunt, and during that time, McCoy is believed to have stolen a van in Perry County.

That stolen vehicle was later tracked to a gas station in La Vergne, where officers found McCoy inside. Law enforcement quickly moved in and took him into custody without incident.

Officials confirm McCoy now faces multiple charges stemming from the chase, crash, and vehicle theft. The case span across two counties — beginning in rural Perry County and ending over 100 miles away in La Vergne.

The arrest has been confirmed by Perry County authorities, who coordinated closely with law enforcement in Rutherford County during the investigation.
