RUTHERFORD COUNTY, TN - Murfreesboro’s own Dr. Michael McDonald, JD, MPA, has been selected to teach Law and Trial Advocacy at Oxford Royale Academy’s summer program held at Yale University. The Oxford Royale Academy (based in the United Kingdom) offers advanced academic summer courses to students aged 13–18, drawing participants from over 170 countries worldwide.
The Law and Trial Advocacy course is designed to challenge young scholars by immersing them in the U.S. legal system. Students will examine landmark court cases, debate ethical dilemmas, and gain hands-on experience in legal analysis and courtroom argument. “I’m humbled and honored to have been selected to teach law and trial advocacy for Oxford Royale Academy and to the students coming to Yale from over 170 countries across the globe,” McDonald said.
Dr. McDonald, a retired legal professional and experienced educator, has taught at institutions including Cumberland University, Tennessee State University, and Middle Tennessee State University. His academic background includes a law degree from the University of Illinois-Chicago at The John Marshall School of Law and a master’s in public administration from Southern Illinois University. He is also a former Student Government Association President at MTSU and was honored in 2023 as an Advocate of Civility at the MTSU Unity Luncheon. Beyond academia, McDonald is a published author and a founding member of the Rutherford County Juvenile Detention Center Board. McDonald authored several books about “College Life 101” and “Parliamentary Procedure for Advocates, Not Dummies.”
