UPDATED: MURFREESBORO, Tenn. — TriStar StoneCrest Medical Center has proposed the development of a freestanding emergency room in South Murfreesboro, citing the area's continued population growth and increased demand for accessible emergency medical services.

According to TriStar officials, the facility would be located near South Church Street and Warrior Drive and is intended to reduce travel time for residents in South Murfreesboro and nearby Barfield, who currently face drives of 20 to 30 minutes to reach the nearest emergency room. The freestanding ER would operate independently of a hospital campus but would be equipped to provide full emergency care services.

TriStar Health representatives stated that, similar to hospital-based emergency rooms, the proposed facility would offer life-saving treatments, diagnostic services, and patient stabilization. For individuals requiring a higher level of care, transfers would be arranged to nearby hospitals such as TriStar StoneCrest in Smyrna or other facilities of the patient's choosing.

The proposed ER would be funded through private investment. TriStar Health, a tax-paying organization, noted that it also partners with local nonprofits and charitable organizations to support community health initiatives.

The facility would be open to all patients, regardless of insurance status. In a public statement, TriStar Health affirmed that no patient would be turned away from care at the proposed location.

TriStar Health has operated in Middle Tennessee for over five decades and currently manages several hospitals in the region, including Centennial, Summit, and Southern Hills Medical Centers, in addition to StoneCrest in Smyrna.

The project is part of TriStar’s broader expansion strategy as Rutherford County approaches a population milestone expected to surpass Hamilton County, increasing the need for accessible and timely medical care.

No timeline for construction or official approvals has been announced as of this report.
