From Friday, July 25 through Sunday, July 27, Tennessee’s annual Back-to-School Tax-Free Weekend offers shoppers a break from state and local sales tax on essential items. That means you can stock up on clothing, school supplies, and even computers—all without the extra expense of taxes.
This popular event was established in 2006 by the Tennessee General Assembly, and now marking its 20th year, the tax-free weekend is designed to ease the financial burden for families while fueling local business activity. It starts at 12:01 a.m. Friday and wraps up at 11:59 p.m. Sunday, giving everyone a full 72 hours to grab those classroom necessities.
Eligible items include:
- School supplies priced $100 or less per item
- Clothing priced $100 or less per item
- Computers and tablets priced $1,500 or less
