Two Arrested as Police Shut Down Underground Gambling Operation in Murfreesboro

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (WGNS) — Two people have been arrested after Murfreesboro Police uncovered an illegal gambling operation at a business on West Burton Street.

Thirty-seven year old Diego Gonzalez and 24-year old Daniela Vargas were taken into custody on Thursday, July 24. Both face felony charges of aggravated gambling promotion and possession of gambling devices.

The arrests follow a two-month investigation by the Murfreesboro Police Department’s Special Investigation Section (SIS). Officers served a search warrant at the location after receiving complaints from residents about suspicious activity at the business, where windows and doors had been blacked out.

Inside, detectives found what they described as a full-scale illegal casino. Gambling machines and other equipment were seized from the scene. One customer and several employees were questioned and released.

The investigation is ongoing as police work to identify other potential illegal gambling operations within the city.
