MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (WGNS) – Middle Tennessee State University officially celebrated the grand opening of the new Stephen and Denise Smith Student-Athlete Performance Center with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Wednesday, July 30, at 9 a.m. The event took place between the Rose and Emmett Kennon Hall of Fame and the newly completed facility in the north end zone of Floyd Stadium.
The three-story, 85,000-square-foot center is the new home for Blue Raider Football and a game-changing resource for all MTSU student-athletes, featuring state-of-the-art training, nutrition, and sports medicine amenities. This milestone marks the centerpiece of Phase I of the Build Blue Campaign, a $25 million private fundraising initiative aimed at transforming MTSU's athletic facilities.
The Smith Athletic Performance Center houses a modern strength and conditioning center, a dedicated nutrition station, team locker rooms, meeting spaces, and offices previously located in the Murphy Center. It also features a premium club-level space with game day views and special event capabilities.
🎉 The ribbon-cutting was free and open to the public, and many MTSU fans and supporters gathered to celebrate the occasion. Following the ceremony, guests were invited to tour the facility and get a firsthand look at the university’s latest investment in the success and well-being of its student-athletes.
