Silver Top Surprise: Road Trippers, Parents Warned About Mislabeled Vodka Seltzers

UNITED STATES - A lot of families are hitting the highway for that annual dream vacation…Like a scene straight out of National Lampoon’s Vacation, the first leg of the road trip is done, and it’s time to stop for gas at the local grab-n’-go. As Mom heads inside to grab some refreshing beverages to cool off the hot summer day, the kids follow close behind, begging for candy.

Meanwhile at the pumps, Dad tops off the tank while daydreaming that the drive is almost over—despite the map clearly showing another five hours to go. After refueling, he hops back into the ride, cranks up the A/C, and hopes it’ll drown out the humidity. No such luck.

Once everyone is back in the car, the navigation chimes in with a British accent: “Four hundred and ten miles ahead, turn left.” As the cruise resumes, Mom hands Dad a groovy-looking energy drink, which he gulps down in seconds. With a loud belch and a swipe of his forehead, he extends his arm for another.

But before handing him a second, Mom gives a five-minute speech on the need for American males to decrease their caffeine intake in order to increase their quality of life. Dad thanks her for the lecture, cracks open the next can, and takes another gulp.

Ten minutes later, something doesn’t seem quite right. Dad’s driving begins to drift into the center lane, then veers back toward the shoulder. Without further ado, Mom tells him to pull over - so that she can take the wheel. One smirk later, and she’s driving.

So… what happened to dear-old-dad in such a short time? Great question.

As Mom tunes in the local radio, hoping to learn something new, the first news story she hears happens to be about a beverage company’s major mix-up—and a certain energy drink containing  alcohol...After the newscast is over, mom tells dad the good news - she has once again, saved the day!

The FDA says some shoppers may have bought a 12-pack of Celsius Astro Vibe energy drink, thinking it’s the non-alcoholic version—but after a few sips, they may feel a bit more giggly instead of a bit more energy. If that’s the case, you probably bought the giggly juice and not the energy juice.

Evidently, the cans that contain the alcohol have a silver top, as opposed to the non-alcoholic energy drink that comes with a black top (non-alcoholic version with black top seen in photo above this article.

So if you're aiming for a high-energy road trip and not an unexpected detour to the county jail, make sure you’re grabbing Celsius Astro Vibe with the black top — not the silver-topped party cans. Those might turn your family vacation into a boozy joyride and wrap things up early… especially if you and the kids are tossing them back like it's spring break in Daytona.
