MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – In observance of Labor Day, City of Murfreesboro offices, Murfreesboro Transit, and most Parks & Recreation facilities will be closed on Monday, Sept. 1, 2025. The City’s public transportation service will not run on Labor Day.
The Solid Waste Department will be closed Labor Day, Monday, Sept. 1. There will be no garbage pick-up on Monday. Monday’s garbage pick-up will be Tuesday, Sept. 2, and Tuesday’s garbage pick-up will be Wednesday, Sept. 3. Thursday’s trash will moved to Friday, Sept.5. OUTDOOR POOL: The Sports*Com Boro Beach Pool will be open for the last time this season, 10 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Join the fund for games, music and swimming as summer ends.
McFadden Community Center, Patterson Park Community Center, Wilderness Station, Cannonsburgh Village, Bradley Academy Museum and Cultural Center, and the St. Clair Senior Center will be closed. The Parks and Recreation Main Office at 2140 N. Thompson Lane will also be closed Labor Day.
Labor Day is annually observed on the first Monday of September. The first Labor Day was held in 1882. Its origins stem from the desire of the Central Labor Union to create a holiday for workers. It became a federal holiday in 1894.
City Hall business will resume regular hours of operation, which are 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., on Tuesday, Sept. 2.
