SHELBYVILLE, Tenn. – The Shelbyville Police Department has confirmed that the body recovered from Normandy Lake has been positively identified as 84-year-old Sara Padgett.
Padgett’s body was discovered inside a submerged vehicle that was pulled from the lake on Wednesday. Authorities reported that her remains have been transported to the Medical Examiner’s Office in Nashville to determine the exact cause of death. Meanwhile, the vehicle has been sent to the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation Crime Lab for further examination.
Padgett was first reported missing in April, prompting the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation to issue a Silver Alert. Her disappearance sparked concern throughout the community, and many had held out hope for a different outcome.
Police noted that investigators worked closely with partnering agencies throughout the search. While this is not the outcome that friends and family had hoped for, local authorities were grateful to be able to provide closure to her loved ones.
At this time, investigators have found no indication of foul play.
Authorities emphasized that Padgett was a beloved member of the community and that her loss will be deeply felt. The department extended condolences to her family and urged the community to keep them in their thoughts during this difficult time.
