MURFREESBORO, Tenn. — The Rutherford County Health Department is recognizing September as National Preparedness Month, working with local partners to highlight how planning ahead can save lives and protect communities during emergencies.

“Preparedness starts at home,” said County Health Director Sydney Butterfield. “Simple steps like building an emergency kit, having multiple ways to receive alerts, and creating a family emergency plan can make a huge difference when every second counts.”

Key Steps to Preparedness

Preparedness Month emphasizes that first responders may not always be immediately available during disasters, so families and individuals should take proactive steps now.

The Tennessee Department of Health encourages all Tennesseans to take time this month to review their plans, prepare supplies, and get connected to community resources.
